When you visit Yorkeys Knob Community Kindergarten you will see many activities and learning experiences occurring throughout the session, though not necessarily at the same time each day. Ours is a “play-based” program where a variety of thoughtfully considered learning experiences are offered for children.
We strive to see an increase in confidence and independence, where children are not afraid to try out their own ideas or have their own thoughts. Children are encouraged to learn at their own pace with freedom to choose a task and complete it to their own satisfaction. We provide the opportunity for the children to experience limits and interact with concerned adults, who constantly extend on children’s learning, respecting them as developing individuals.
Our way of being at kindy is shifting to a SLOW Pedagogy, that is a balanced approach of mindfulness and recognising that we are creating space for intentional, responsive and child centred learning.
C&K’s Curriculum Approach “Listening and Learning Together” has been created around five learning outcomes – belonging, connecting, well-being, exploring and communicating. The learning outcomes are interconnected with human qualities of:
- Respect
- Trust
- Honesty
- Integrity
- Compassion
- Courage
- Resilience
The learning outcomes in our curriculum approach align with both The Early Years Framework for Australia (EYLF), and the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline in (QKLG).
- Children have a strong sense of identity
- Children are connected with and contribute to their world
- Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
- Children are confident and involved learners
- Children are effective communicators
